Over 400 children at Community-Based Childcare Centres in Mzuzu are now receiving daily nutritious porridge meals through El Chay Foundation's new Nutrition Support programme.
El Chay Foundation has officially launched its Nutrition Support programme, providing daily fortified porridge meals to children attending Community-Based Childcare Centres (CBCCs) across Mzuzu.
The programme currently reaches over 400 children across multiple CBCCs, ensuring that every child starts their day with a nutritious meal. Studies show that children who eat breakfast are more attentive, have better attendance, and perform significantly better academically.
"Many of these children walk to the CBCC without having eaten anything at home. This porridge programme is not just about food — it is about giving every child an equal chance to learn and thrive," said the Foundation's Executive Director.
El Chay Foundation works in close partnership with CBCC caregivers, community health workers, and local suppliers to ensure quality and consistency of the programme. Plans are underway to expand the initiative to additional CBCCs in the surrounding districts.
