Using Theatre for Development to educate Mzuzu residents on environmental cleanliness, mobilising communities to eliminate dumping and plastic litter across the city.
El Chay Foundation uses Theatre for Development (TfD) as a powerful community engagement tool to raise awareness about environmental cleanliness in the city of Mzuzu. Our trained youth performers take to the streets, markets, and public spaces to deliver compelling performances that educate residents on the dangers of littering — particularly dumping and thin plastic pollution.
The campaign targets dampers (illegal dump sites) and the widespread littering of thin plastic bags that clog drainage systems, pollute water sources, and degrade the urban environment. Through drama, song, and interactive storytelling, we inspire behaviour change and mobilise community clean-up action. Youth volunteers then lead organised clean-up exercises across Mzuzu neighbourhoods.
