Construction of three new classroom blocks in Rumphi District is complete, giving over 300 additional students access to safe, modern learning spaces.
Three new classroom blocks have been completed in Rumphi District, providing safe and modern learning environments for over 300 additional students who previously studied in overcrowded or dilapidated facilities.
The construction project, delivered in partnership with the local district education office and community school committees, took six months to complete. Each block contains two classrooms, a small storage room, and separate sanitation facilities for boys and girls.
The project employed 35 local construction workers, providing months of paid employment and building local capacity in construction skills. Materials were sourced locally where possible, supporting the district economy.
"These classrooms will change the learning experience for hundreds of children," said the headteacher of one of the beneficiary schools. "Before, we had 80 students in a room built for 40. Now every child has a desk and can hear the teacher."
The classrooms are equipped with blackboards, desks, and chairs funded through a combination of Foundation resources and a grant from a partner organisation. Solar lighting has been installed to allow evening study sessions.
This project brings the total number of structures built or renovated by the Foundation to 22, serving thousands of community members across the Northern Region. The Foundation is currently planning two additional classroom projects for 2025 in Nkhata Bay District.
